The question everyone asks first

"Why does my CBD vape leak when it's hot?"

This is the number one question we get at the counter when spring rolls around. It's not the hardware failing—it's physics. Heat thins out the e-liquid, making it more runny. If the airflow is set too tight, pressure builds up inside the tank. That pressure pushes the liquid out through the mouthpiece or the air holes. It's messy, and it wastes product.

So what can you tell your customers? Simple: open the airflow. More air in means less pressure inside. It's a five-second fix that saves a lot of frustration.

What we'd tell a first-time buyer

If someone's picking up their first CBD vape pen or pod system, they probably don't think about airflow at all. They just want it to work. But a little education goes a long way.

Explain it like this: airflow controls how much air mixes with the vapor. More airflow gives a cooler, smoother hit but slightly less flavor intensity. Less airflow gives a warmer, more concentrated hit. Think of it like adjusting the temperature on a drink—sometimes you want it chilled, sometimes you want it strong.

For a first-timer in spring, suggest they start with a medium airflow setting. It's a safe middle ground that works for most people. They can always adjust from there based on their preference.

What experienced users still get wrong

You'd think regulars would know this by now, but even experienced users make mistakes. The biggest one? Keeping the airflow tight all the time.

Sure, a tight draw can give a stronger hit, and some people prefer that for indoor use. But on a hot day, that tight draw works against you. The vapor gets hotter, which can feel harsh on the throat. And the pressure buildup increases the risk of leaks.

Another mistake we see: ignoring the airflow when switching from an indoor to an outdoor setting. If someone's been vaping in an air-conditioned office all morning, then steps out into the sun, they need to adjust. A quick twist of the airflow ring makes all the difference.

The trade-off nobody mentions

There's a trade-off with airflow that rarely gets talked about: flavor vs. coolness.

Open airflow cools the vapor and reduces harshness, but it also dilutes the flavor. If your customer is chasing the full taste of their CBD e-liquid, they might resist opening it up. That's fair. But in hot weather, a warm, tight hit can be genuinely unpleasant.

The trick is finding the sweet spot. Suggest they open the airflow just a little—enough to cool the vapor without losing all the flavor. It's a balancing act, but once they find it, they'll be set for the whole summer.

Before you walk out the door

As a shop owner, you can do a quick check before sending customers on their way. If they're buying a device with adjustable airflow, show them where it is and how to change it. Give them the 30-second spiel: "Hot day? Open it up a bit. Cold day? You can close it down for a stronger hit."

Also, keep an eye on your own display units. If you have devices sitting in a sunny window, the heat can affect them too. Rotate stock and keep them out of direct sunlight when possible.

And remember, regulations on CBD products vary by region. What's okay in one state might not be in another. Always check your local laws—this isn't legal advice, but it's common sense for running a shop.

That's the airflow story, plain and simple. Get your customers to adjust, and you'll cut down on complaints and returns. Happy spring selling!
