Do: Match Battery Size to Your Daily Routine

Before you look at any specs, ask yourself how often you actually reach for your vape. A heavy user who takes five-minute breaks every hour needs a different device than someone who takes a few puffs after dinner.

Here's a rough way to think about it: a 300mAh battery might get you through a light day, maybe 50 to 80 puffs. Bump that to 500mAh and you're looking at 150 to 200 puffs, which covers most moderate users. If you're a chain-vaper, you'll want something in the 700mAh to 1000mAh range, but be ready for a chunkier device.

Your draw style matters too. Long, slow draws drain more battery per puff than quick puffs. Same with temperature: if you're running a device that lets you adjust heat, higher settings eat more power. So don't treat mAh as a magic number—it's a starting point for matching the device to your habits.

Do not: Chase the Highest mAh Number

It's tempting to grab the biggest battery you can find, but that often means a heavier, bulkier device. If you're someone who likes to slip your vape into a shirt pocket or a small bag, a 1000mAh brick is going to be a pain. You don't need a week of battery life if you're near a charger most of the day.

Also, high capacity doesn't always mean better performance. A well-engineered 350mAh battery can outlast a poorly designed 600mAh one. Look at the brand's reputation and read user reviews about real-world battery life, not just the spec sheet.

And remember: you're buying a device, not a power bank. A battery that lasts two days but feels awful in your hand is a bad trade. Prioritize the overall experience.

Do: Check Charging Speed and Passthrough Features

Here's a feature that often matters more than raw capacity: how fast the device charges. If your battery dies midday, being able to get 20 minutes of charge for another hour of use is a lifesaver. Look for devices that advertise rapid charging (often 1A or higher).

Passthrough is another underrated feature—it lets you vape while the device is charging. That's perfect for desk workers or anyone who hates waiting. Not all devices have it, so if you're often near a USB port, it's worth checking.

These features can make a smaller battery feel like a bigger one. A 400mAh device with passthrough might serve you better than a 600mAh one that takes hours to recharge.

Do not: Ignore Cartridge Compatibility

Your battery and cartridge need to work together, and not just in terms of threading (most use 510-thread, but double-check). The resistance of your cartridge affects battery drain. Lower resistance (like 1.0 ohm) heats up faster and produces more vapor, but it pulls more current. Higher resistance (like 1.5 ohm) is more efficient but might give a weaker hit.

If you're using a low-resistance cartridge, you'll need a battery that can handle the load. Some devices are designed for a specific resistance range, so check the specs. Also, voltage settings matter: a device that runs too hot for your cartridge will drain faster and can burn your oil. Start low and adjust to find the sweet spot.

Tie-breaker when both apply

So you're torn between two devices: one with a bigger battery, one with better charging features. Here's how to decide.

If you're never far from a charger—working at a desk, commuting with a power bank—prioritize charging speed and passthrough. You'll never be stuck with a dead battery for long.

If you're often out for long stretches, like hiking or at festivals, raw capacity wins. You need the battery to last until you're back at a wall outlet, and a fast charge won't help if there's no plug nearby.

Another factor: portability. If you're okay with a heavier device, bigger battery is fine. If you want something that disappears in your pocket, go smaller and rely on charging features.

There's no universal winner. It comes down to your lifestyle and how you use the device. Be honest about your habits and you'll make the right call.

Do / do not

• When comparing CBD-compatible vaporizer hardware, battery capacity (measured in mAh) is a useful but incomplete guide to session length. Real-world session length depends on your draw style, temperature settings, and the resistance of the cartridge you pair with the device. Most users should prioritize a battery that comfortably covers their daily usage pattern rather than chasing the highest mAh number.
• Battery capacity (mAh) is a rough guide, not a guarantee: your draw length and temperature settings significantly impact actual session time.
• Higher capacity usually means a heavier device; balance battery life with portability based on how you carry it.
• Look for passthrough charging and fast charging features—they matter more than raw mAh for many users.
• Pair your battery with the right cartridge resistance; low-resistance carts drain batteries faster.
• Don't buy on capacity alone: consider build quality, safety features, and how the device feels in your hand.
