The marketing around pod kits usually goes like this: "Buy this 25-pound device and never buy a disposable again." It is a compelling pitch. It is also missing the full picture. So here is the full picture.

Let us run a 12-month projection for a typical vaper. Three scenarios.

Scenario A: Disposables only. One 600-puff disposable every two days at $7 each. That is 182 disposables per year. Annual cost: $1,277. You get consistent flavor but inconsistent battery life, and you are throwing away 182 lithium batteries per year. The environmental cost is not on the receipt, but it is real.

Scenario B: Pod kit with pre-filled pods. A $30 device, plus one 2ml pre-filled pod per day at $4.50 each. Annual cost: $30 device + $1,642 in pods = $1,672. More expensive than disposables. The convenience of pre-filled pods is real, but the price premium is punishing.

Scenario C: Pod kit with refillable pods and bottled liquid. A $30 device, plus one replacement pod per week at $4, plus 10ml of bottled liquid per week at $5. Annual cost: $30 device + $208 in pods + $260 in liquid = $498. This is the number that actually competes.

The gap is not small. Refillable pod vaping costs $498 per year. Disposables cost $1,277. Pre-filled pods cost $1,672. The difference between the cheapest and most expensive option is $1,174. Per year.

The device is not the cost driver. The consumables are. Disposables and pre-filled pods charge you for the convenience of not refilling. That convenience costs roughly $800-1,200 per year. Whether that is worth it is a personal decision. But it should be an informed one.
