Script A (fast)

You're in a hurry, maybe at a trade show or on a call with a supplier. You want answers without the fluff. Here's what you say:

"Hey, I'm looking at your ring-spun tees for spring. Quick one—are they pre-shrunk? What's the shrinkage on a cold wash and hang dry? And what's the dye lot variance? I need consistent color across bulk."

That's it. Three questions, direct. If the person on the other end knows their product, they'll answer without hesitation. If they stumble or give you a vague 'should be fine,' that's a red flag.

Script B (deep)

When you have time and want to dig into the details, go longer. You're evaluating for wholesale, so you need specifics.

"I'm doing a spring line with ring-spun cotton. Walk me through your care recommendations—wash temp, drying, anything I should warn my customers about. Also, how do you handle dye lots between batches? Is there a tolerance I should expect? And what's your return policy if a batch comes out off-spec?"

This script gets you the full picture. You're not just asking about care; you're probing quality control and supplier accountability. Good suppliers love this—it shows you're serious.

What answers should sound like

Good answers are concrete and confident. For shrinkage, you want a number: "Expect 3-5% shrinkage on first wash if you tumble dry low." For dye lots, a solid supplier will say something like "We match dye lots within 10% tolerance, and we'll note the lot number on the invoice." That's a real answer.

Also listen for what they don't say. If they never mention pre-shrinking, ask directly. If they don't offer care instructions on the label, that's a legal issue—the FTC requires it. A good supplier will point you to the care label and walk you through it.

Bad answers that waste time

Watch for these. "Oh, it's fine, just wash it like normal." That's not an answer—that's a brush-off. "We don't really track shrinkage" means they haven't tested, and you're the guinea pig. "Color might vary a bit" without a tolerance—that's a gamble you don't want.

Also be wary of anyone who tells you to dry clean a cotton tee. That's overkill and costs your customers money. You want simple, honest care: cold wash, hang dry, or low heat. If they push dry cleaning, they're either clueless or trying to upsell.

Walk-away line

You've asked your questions, and the answers feel shaky. It happens. You don't need to be rude—just wrap it up. Say this:

"Thanks for the info. I'll take a look at a sample and get back to you. Appreciate your time."

That's it. You leave the door open without committing. If they couldn't answer basic care questions, imagine what a return dispute looks like. Better to know now.

One last thing—before you place a big order, order a single tee and run it through a wash cycle yourself. See how it holds up. That's the only test that matters.

This guide is for general care and wholesale evaluation. Always follow the care label on the garment. Individual results vary by fabric and wash method.

Script FAQs

Q: What's the best way to wash a ring-spun cotton tee?

Cold water, gentle cycle, inside out. Skip the dryer if you can—hang it on a line or a rack. Heat shrinks cotton, and ring-spun is no exception. If you must dry, use low heat and pull it out while still slightly damp.

Q: How do I know if a tee is pre-shrunk?

Check the label—it should say 'pre-shrunk' or 'garment washed.' If it doesn't, assume it'll shrink in the wash. For wholesale, ask for the spec sheet; a reputable supplier will have shrinkage percentages.

Q: Should I store tees folded or on hangers?

Folded. Hangers can stretch the shoulders, especially with soft ring-spun cotton. Fold them and stack, or roll them if you're tight on space. Avoid plastic bins for long-term storage—cotton needs to breathe.

Scripts A/B

• For spring care of ring-spun cotton tees, use cold water and hang dry to preserve fit and color. When evaluating wholesale options, ask about shrinkage, dye lots, and pre-shrunk guarantees—these answers determine whether the tee survives the season.
• Cold wash, low heat, or hang dry—heat is the enemy of ring-spun cotton.
• Ask about pre-shrunk fabric and dye lot consistency before bulk orders.
• Store tees folded, not hung, to avoid shoulder stretching.
• Spring humidity means check for mildew before storing long-term.
