Most people pick a vape based on how it looks. Then they spend months with a draw style they hate, wondering why the experience never feels right. The draw is not a detail. The draw is the entire experience.

There are two fundamental draw styles: mouth-to-lung, or MTL, and direct-to-lung, or DTL. The difference is not just terminology. It changes everything about how you vape.

MTL is a tight draw. You pull the vapor into your mouth first, then inhale it into your lungs -- exactly like a cigarette. The airflow is restricted. The vapor is warm and concentrated. The throat hit is sharp. The cloud is small. MTL devices typically run at 8 to 15 watts with high-resistance coils above 1.0 ohm. This is the draw style that works for most people coming from a cigarette background. It feels familiar. It delivers nicotine efficiently. It does not ask you to learn a new way to inhale.

DTL is an open draw. You pull the vapor directly into your lungs in one continuous inhale, like taking a deep breath. The airflow is wide open. The vapor is cooler and denser. The cloud is large. DTL devices run at 30 to 80 watts or more with sub-ohm coils below 1.0 ohm. This is the draw style for people who prioritize cloud production and smooth, cool hits. It is a completely different physical sensation.

Here is the thing nobody tells you: most people have a clear preference, and fighting it makes the experience worse. If you find yourself tightening your lips around a wide-bore mouthpiece to restrict the airflow, you want MTL. If you find yourself drilling out airflow holes or feeling like you cannot get enough vapor, you want DTL. Your body is telling you something. Listen to it.

The nicotine strength also matters. MTL devices work best with higher nicotine strengths, 10mg to 20mg. DTL devices work best with lower strengths, 3mg to 6mg. This is not a rule. It is a consequence of physics. DTL delivers more vapor per puff, so you absorb more nicotine per puff. If you use 20mg liquid in a DTL device, you are going to have a very bad time.

Stop guessing. Try both. Pay attention to which one feels natural. That is the one you should be using. This content is intended for adults 21 years of age or older.
