A pod mod is the middle ground between a pod system and a full mod and tank. It takes pods (like a pod system) but has adjustable wattage, a screen, and sub-ohm capability (like a mod). It's the most versatile device category. It's also the most confusing. Here's what makes a pod mod different.

Pod system: Small, simple, low wattage (8-18W), tight draw, high nicotine (10-20mg nic salts). Example: XROS 4, Xlim Pro 2.

Pod mod: Medium size, adjustable wattage (5-80W), loose to tight draw, medium to high nicotine (3-20mg). Example: SMOK Nord 4, Vaporesso Luxe XR Max, GeekVape Aegis Boost.

Mod and tank: Large, fully adjustable, high wattage (50-200W), loose draw, low nicotine (0-6mg freebase). Example: GeekVape Aegis Legend with a Freemax Fireluke tank.

Pod mods are the best choice if you want one device that does everything. You can vape MTL with 20mg nic salts at 15W, then switch to DTL with 3mg freebase at 50W. The trade-off is size — pod mods are bigger than pod systems and smaller than full mods.

The Vaporesso Luxe XR Max is the best pod mod of 2026. 80W max, 2800mAh battery, GTX coil compatibility, and a 5ml pod. It's the Swiss Army knife of vaping.
