Audit what you have

Walk behind your counter and take a real look at your coil inventory. Not the shelf display—the actual stock you've got in the back. How many mesh options are sitting next to standard ones? What's been gathering dust for months?

Most shops end up with a lopsided mix. Either you loaded up on mesh because customers asked for it, or you stuck with standard because that's what you've always ordered. Neither approach serves your customers well.

Here's what to check:

• Which coil types match the devices you sell? If you carry VERTEX-VISTA or LINQ-PRO, check what coils are compatible. Don't assume—verify.
• What's your return rate on coils? If people are bringing back standard coils because they burn out fast, that's a signal.
• What are customers actually asking for? Keep a mental note of the questions you hear. 'Does this come in mesh?' is different from 'Which one lasts longer?'

What still earns its place

Standard coils aren't obsolete. They're still the workhorse for a big chunk of vapers, especially beginners and budget-conscious folks. If a customer is picking up their first device, a standard coil is easier to prime and more forgiving if they forget to wait after filling. That's worth a lot in the first few weeks.

Mesh coils earn their place when customers care about flavor. The wire mesh heats more evenly, which means you get consistent vapor and less of that burnt taste when you chain-vape. If someone's using a flavor-focused device like the AURA or VERTEX-25K, mesh is often the better recommendation.

So both types belong on your shelf. The trick is knowing who to point at which one.

What to retire

If you've got coils that haven't moved in six months, that's dead weight. Check for these red flags:

• Obsolete compatibility—if the device they fit is discontinued, cut your losses.
• Poor performance reports—if customers keep coming back with complaints about a specific coil, it's time to stop ordering it.
• Overpriced for the value—if a coil costs twice as much as another that performs similarly, why are you stocking it?

Retiring doesn't mean throwing them away. Run a clearance sale or bundle them with a device that still uses them. Just get them off your balance sheet.

Gap list only

Now, make a list of what you're missing. Not what you want—what you actually need to fill gaps.

• Do you have a mesh option for every device you carry? If a device only has standard coils available, that's fine, but know that you're limiting flavor-focused customers.
• Do you have a budget coil for entry-level devices? Not everyone wants to spend $12 on a pack of mesh.
• Do you have coils that suit high-wattage users? Some customers push their devices hard. Make sure you've got something that won't burn out in a day.

Keep this list short. You're not trying to stock every coil under the sun—just the ones that fill a real need.

Buy only for gaps

When you place your next order, buy for the gaps you found—not for what a distributor is pushing this month.

If your audit showed that your mesh options are all high-end, add a mid-range mesh coil that fits the LINQ-SLIM or VERTEX-15K. If you're missing a standard coil for a popular starter kit, grab that. The goal is a balanced inventory that lets you guide customers honestly.

And when a customer asks which coil they should get, you can answer with confidence because you've got the options in hand. That's the real win.

FAQ

Do mesh coils really last longer than standard coils?

Generally yes, but it depends on how you vape. Mesh heats more evenly, which reduces hot spots and gunk buildup, so they often last a bit longer. Heavy users or sweet juice fans will wear out any coil faster.

Are mesh coils worth the extra cost?

If you care about flavor and don't mind paying a little more upfront, yes. You might change them less often, which can balance out the price. But if you're on a tight budget or just starting out, standard coils are still a solid choice.

Why do some vapers prefer standard coils?

They're cheaper and more forgiving. Standard coils are easier to prime and less sensitive to chain-vaping, making them a safer bet for beginners. Some vapers also prefer the slightly warmer, more direct hit they give.
