MTL (mouth-to-lung) and DTL (direct-to-lung) are the two fundamental vaping styles. MTL mimics a cigarette. DTL mimics a hookah. They use different devices, different coils, different juice, and different nicotine strengths. Getting the wrong one is why most people quit vaping.

MTL (mouth-to-lung): You pull vapor into your mouth first, then inhale it into your lungs. It's how you smoke a cigarette. The draw is tight. The vapor is warm but not hot. The cloud is small. You use a pod system (XROS, Xlim, Caliburn) with a 1.0-ohm or higher coil and 10-20mg nic salt juice. The nicotine hit is fast and satisfying. This is the style for ex-smokers.

DTL (direct-to-lung): You inhale vapor directly into your lungs, like breathing through a tube. The draw is loose. The vapor is warm to hot. The cloud is large. You use a sub-ohm tank with a 0.4-ohm or lower coil and 3-6mg freebase juice. The nicotine hit is slow and sustained. This is the style for cloud-chasers and flavor enthusiasts.

If you're quitting smoking, start with MTL. The tight draw and fast nicotine hit are what you're used to. DTL feels wrong to most ex-smokers — the loose draw and slow nicotine absorption don't satisfy the craving in the same way.
