When you first open the box, don't just start vaping. Take a few minutes to do it right.
- Read the manual. Yes, really. Each device is a little different, and the manual tells you things like how to fill the pod, how to prime the coil, and how to charge safely. It's boring, but it saves headaches later.
- Charge the device. Most pod systems come partially charged, but it's a good idea to give it a full charge before first use. Use the charging cable that came in the box. Plug it into a USB port on your computer or a low-wattage wall adapter (usually 5V/1A). Avoid using high-speed phone chargers unless the manual says they're okay—they can stress the battery.
- Fill the pod. Find the fill port—it's usually a rubber flap on the side or bottom. Tilt the pod slightly and insert the nozzle of your e-liquid bottle. Squeeze gently and stop when the liquid reaches the fill line (if there is one). Don't overfill. If you spill, wipe it up before putting the pod back in.
- Prime the coil. If your pod has a replaceable coil, give it a few minutes to soak up the e-liquid before you fire it. This prevents dry hits and burnt taste. Just let the pod sit upright for 5-10 minutes after filling. If you're using a disposable pod, the same applies—let it sit for a minute or two.
- Attach the pod. Snap it in until it clicks. Make sure it's seated firmly, or you might get a poor connection and no vapor.
- Start puffing. Take a slow, gentle draw. Don't hit it like a cigarette—pod systems work best with a steady, easy inhale. If you get a gurgling sound, you might have overfilled or the coil is flooded. Just take a few dry pulls (without firing) to clear it.
