Most vapers pick a VG/PG ratio once and never think about it again. They buy whatever the shop recommends. They assume the ratio is just a technical detail that does not matter much. That assumption is wrong. The ratio is the single most important number on the bottle. It determines everything.

VG — vegetable glycerin — is thick, sweet, and produces clouds. It carries flavor poorly. It adds zero throat hit. A 100% VG liquid would be almost unvapable in anything but a dripper because it is too thick to wick, and the flavor would be barely there. VG is the volume knob. It makes the experience bigger.

PG — propylene glycol — is thin, nearly tasteless, and carries flavor like a freight train. It delivers the throat hit. A 100% PG liquid would be harsh, produce almost no vapor, and taste overwhelmingly intense. PG is the intensity knob. It makes the experience sharper.

The common ratios are not arbitrary. 50/50 is the universal standard for pod systems and mouth-to-lung tanks. It balances flavor and vapor, wicks easily in small coils, and delivers a satisfying throat hit. 70/30 is the sub-ohm standard. More cloud, smoother hit, fuller mouthfeel. 80/20 and above is cloud-chasing territory. Minimal throat hit, maximum vapor, and flavor that needs a powerful coil to pull through.

Here is the mistake most people make: they put 70/30 in a pod system. The coil cannot handle the thickness. The wicking ports are too small. The result is dry hits, burnt cotton, and a coil that dies in three days. Match the ratio to the device. High VG for sub-ohm, high airflow, direct lung. 50/50 for pods, tight airflow, mouth to lung.

The ratio is not a preference. It is a compatibility requirement. Ignore it and your device will punish you. This content is intended for adults 21 years of age or older.
