Every spec sheet in the vape industry lists a battery capacity. Almost none of them tell you what it actually means. That gap is costing brands credibility with every wholesale buyer who knows how to read between the lines.

A 600mAh battery in a 10mm-diameter device is not the same as a 600mAh battery in a 16mm-diameter device. The smaller device has less internal volume for cell packaging, less thermal mass for heat dissipation, and a shorter average discharge curve under load. The number on the spec sheet is identical. The real-world performance is not.

The format constraint nobody wants to talk about: cylindrical cells require a minimum internal diameter of roughly 10.5mm for a 10440 form factor delivering 350mAh. If your device is 9mm wide, you cannot use a cylindrical cell. You are using a pouch cell, which delivers lower energy density per cubic millimeter and costs more. Your spec sheet says 350mAh. Your competitor's 12mm device also says 350mAh. The customer buys the slimmer device. Three weeks later, they discover the battery lasts half as long. Guess who they blame.

Realistic capacity claims require context. A 500mAh cell rated at 0.2C discharge delivers 500mAh in a lab. At 1C discharge — which is what a 0.5-ohm coil at 3.7V actually draws — that same cell delivers roughly 420mAh. The spec sheet says 500. The device delivers 420. The customer notices the gap even if they cannot explain it.

Market expectations are shaped by the largest brands. When a market leader ships a 16mm device with 850mAh, every 12mm device with 400mAh looks underpowered by comparison. You cannot fix that with a bigger number on the box. You can only fix it by being honest about what your format can actually deliver and why that is still enough for the use case you designed for.
