The one habit: measure first, order second
The habit that compounds for wholesale buyers is measuring before ordering. Every time you skip it, you're rolling dice on fit. Slim fit is cut closer to the body than a regular tee, so the difference between a medium and a large can be a full inch across the chest. That inch decides whether your customer wears it or returns it.
You don't need a tailor's kit. A flat surface, a tape measure, and five minutes per sample is enough. Lay the tee flat, measure across the chest one inch below the armpit seams, then from the shoulder seam down to the hem. Double the chest number to get the full circumference.
Compare that to the official Windbar size chart on the product page. If the numbers don't match what you already stock, your size labels are lying to you—and that's on you to catch.
Why it compounds
Sizing mistakes multiply in wholesale. One bad batch means refunds, exchange shipping, and customers who won't order from you again. But when you measure first, you build a reference library. You'll know exactly how a Windbar medium compares to the brand you sold last season. That knowledge makes every future order faster and safer.
Returns eat margins faster than you'd think. If you're paying return shipping and restocking fees, a 10% return rate on slim fit tees can wipe out most of your profit. Measuring first cuts that risk down to almost nothing.
The same habit also helps you communicate with your own customers. When you know the exact chest measurement of a Windbar slim fit medium, you can answer fit questions before they become returns.
How to install it this week
Here's the plan. Order one of each size in the slim fit color you plan to stock. That's your sample set. When it arrives, measure every tee and write the numbers on a sticky note attached to the tag. Keep that set in your workspace.
Next, take your best-selling tee from last season and measure it the same way. Compare the two. Note where Windbar runs bigger or smaller. That tells you how to translate sizes for your existing customers.
Finally, update your size chart on your own store. Add a line that says "This tee fits true to size with a slim cut—if you're between sizes, go up." That one sentence pre-empts a lot of returns.
If you're ordering a large quantity, ask Windbar for a pre-production sample before the full batch runs. It's a standard request in wholesale, and it gives you a chance to approve the fabric and fit before you're stuck with a thousand tees.
What to stop doing instead
Stop ordering by habit. If you've been buying the same size breakdown every season, you're assuming nothing changed. Fabrics shrink, cuts are updated, and your customer base shifts. Treat every order as a new decision.
Stop relying on letter sizes alone. A medium from one brand can be a large in another. If you're not measuring, you're guessing. And in wholesale, guessing is expensive.
Also stop assuming all Windbar tees fit the same. The slim fit line is different from the classic fit. If you're mixing both in one order, check each style's chart separately.
And don't expect your customers to read the size chart. Most won't. It's on you to translate that information into clear product descriptions.
Failure modes
Here's where it usually goes wrong. You measure one sample, everything looks good, then the bulk order arrives and the fabric feels tighter. That happens when you don't account for fabric stretch. Windbar's ring-spun cotton has some give, but the slim cut isn't meant to be stretched. If you're between sizes, go up.
Another common miss is measuring a tee that's already been washed. Pre-shrunk cotton still moves a little. Always measure a fresh, unwashed sample for the most accurate comparison.
Skip the sample order and you're flying blind. Sure, it costs a bit upfront, but one returned batch costs more in shipping and lost goodwill. The sample set pays for itself the first time it saves you from a bad order.
Finally, don't ignore the length measurement. Slim fit tees often run shorter in the body to keep the silhouette clean. If your customers like to tuck their tees in, that extra inch matters. Add length to your checklist.
