The "7 to 14 days" you read on every coil box is optimistic. Real-world coil lifespan depends on five factors. Here's how long you should actually expect your coils to last under different conditions.

Pod system coils (MTL, 10-18W): 7-10 days with unsweetened juice. 4-6 days with sweetened commercial juice. 2-3 days with heavily sweetened dessert flavors. The Vaporesso XROS and OXVA Xlim pods consistently hit the high end of these ranges. SMOK pods hit the low end.

Sub-ohm tank coils (DTL, 40-80W): 10-14 days with unsweetened juice. 5-7 days with sweetened juice. 3-4 days with dessert flavors. The HorizonTech Sakerz and Freemax Fireluke coils are the longest-lasting sub-ohm coils on the market.

RDA/RTA coils (rebuildable): The coil itself lasts 2-3 months. The cotton needs replacing every 3-5 days. This is the cheapest way to vape long-term — a $10 pack of cotton and a $5 spool of wire lasts 6 months.

The single biggest factor in coil life is sweetener. A coil that lasts 14 days with a fruit flavor will last 5 days with a caramel custard. The flavor difference is real. So is the cost difference. Choose accordingly.
