Lung health risks from vaping are not evenly distributed. Some groups face substantially higher risk:
People with pre-existing lung conditions (asthma, COPD)
Vaping can trigger bronchospasm and worsen symptoms. If you have asthma or COPD, the safest option is no nicotine product at all. If you currently smoke and have COPD, talk to your doctor about evidence-based cessation methods before switching to vaping.
Youth and young adults (under 25)
Lungs continue developing until about age 25. Nicotine exposure during this period can harm brain development, and the long-term effects of vaping on developing lung tissue are unknown. The CDC and FDA consistently advise against any nicotine product use by youth.
Heavy users (multiple devices per day, high wattage)
More vaping = more exposure to everything — flavorings, metals, PG/VG byproducts. If you're going through a disposable every day or sub-ohm vaping at 100W+, your exposure is substantially higher than a casual pod user. You can estimate your daily intake using our cost calculator which also tracks consumption volume.
People who use illicit or unregulated products
This is the highest risk group by far. EVALI proved that unregulated vape products can contain dangerous additives. Stick to products from reputable brands with transparent manufacturing. If you use THC products, only purchase from licensed dispensaries in states with regulated markets.
