Cleaning your coil won't make it last forever, but it can add 2-5 extra days to its life and improve flavor mid-cycle. Here are three cleaning methods, ranked by effectiveness:
Method 1: Warm Water Rinse (Easy, 10 minutes)
Remove the coil from the tank and rinse it under warm (not hot) running water for 30 seconds. Gently blow through the coil to clear excess water. Let it dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling. This removes surface gunk and e-liquid residue.
Method 2: Vodka Soak (Effective, 2 hours + drying)
Submerge the coil in a small glass of vodka for 2 hours. The alcohol dissolves sugar and sweetener buildup that water alone can't remove. After soaking, rinse with warm water and let dry completely (24-48 hours). This method can extend coil life by 3-5 days.
Method 3: Dry Burn (Mesh Coils Only, 5 minutes)
For mesh coils only (not wire coils with organic cotton): remove the coil, dry it completely, reattach to the mod, and fire at low wattage (5-10W) in 1-second pulses until the mesh glows red. This burns off residue on the mesh itself. Let it cool, re-prime with e-liquid, and reinstall. Never dry-burn coils with organic cotton — it will burn the cotton.
Important: Cleaning removes flavor residue and surface gunk, but it does not reverse cotton degradation. Once the cotton is burned, no cleaning method will fix the burnt taste. Replace the coil.
